Are you aware that the sponges in your kitchen that you use to wash your dishes every single day have tiny pieces of plastic in them? And nooo, they aren’t recyclable. No, these micro-plastics wash down the drain and can end up in our water systems and oceans where marine life digest them.* Furthermore, experts recommend changing your sponge every two weeks to a month - that’s a lot of plastic being used by millions of households across the world!
Fortunately, there are things you can do! One easy activity is to sew a plastic free sponge. This is a great way to reduce your plastic waste and to up-cycle scrap pieces of fabric that you might have around the house.
Materials Needed:
Cotton fabric for the top
Flannel bedding/brushed cotton or a thin towel for the middle padding
Muslin/thin towel for the scrubbing side
Scissors, pins, sewing machine, and other sewing essentials
